Peewee,Bantam A & C , Midget and Jrs make provincials !
Peewee B:
The peewee team had an excellent year this season. Only having enough players for one team they battled there way through the regular season finishing in first place. Going through the playoffs they received a first round bye due to the other team forfeiting. During the 2nd round they faced a very tough Oceanside team. Loosing the first game in the series 7-5 the team battled back to win the next two games to take the series 2-1. The team advanced to the 3rd round to play the eventual provincial champs ( Campbell River ) but unfortunately were taken out in two straight games. Advancing to the provincials in Prince Geroge the team played well going 1-2 in the round robin but it was not enough to move on. Congratulations on a great season !
Bantam A:
The team started off the season not knowing what to expect as many key players from last years team moved up to the midget division. The team had a great start to the season in B with many close and exciting games. The team then received news that they were being moving up to the A division. After being moved up they went on to win two games in the regular season. In many games the effort and determination level was there but the result they wanted was not. Moving onto the playoffs the team was set to play the Nanaimo Timbermen in a best of 3 series. After loosing the first game in Nanaimo the team came out and played some of its best lacrosse of the season. In game 2 the team came out flying winning 6-3 to set up an exciting game 3 back in Nanaimo. Going down 3-0 the team came back to tie the game 3-3. Nanaimo score a late goal to make it 4-3. The Eagles then scored 2 straight to go up 5-4. Unfortunately after receiving many gifts from the referees the Timberman scored with 55 seconds left to send the game into OT. The overtime period was one of the highs of the season with both teams giving it there all. The final score after it was all said and done was 6-5 Vic-Esq sending them to the Provincials in Richmond. Unfortunately it was not meant to be in Richmond with the team going 0-3 including a heartbreaking loss in overtime to the eventual champs from Richmond.
Bantam C:
Much like the other teams in the association the Bantam C team wasn't really sure what to expect going into the season. As the association hasnt had a C team in awhile nobody really knew what to expect from the other associations. As it turns out the team had nothing to worry about as the had a great regular season and qualified for the playoffs. Making it through the first round with a 2-1 series win over Cowichan the team moved on to the island final and more importantly qualified for the provincials. The team unfortunately lost the first game by default due to not being informed about the game in time. That mistake would ultimately play a part in the series as Port Alberni went on to win it 2-1. Not to be rattled by the Island final the team played its best lacrosse of the year when it counted going 3-0 in round robin play. The C team won its semi final game setting up a rematch against Port Alberni in the final but fell short loosing in the gold medal game.
Congratulations to the team on your silver medal and also to coach Kevin Whitney on winning the warrior coach award at the provincials.
Midget A:
The Midget team entered this season with on goal in mind and that was making the provincials. This group of players has always been good but had never made it to the provincials. The team had a season similar to the Bantam A team having a great start to the season before being informed that they were moving from B to A. The team battled through the rest of the season competing in most games but not getting the wins. The team made the playoffs and found out the needed to only win one round to qualify for the provincials which they did beating out Oceanside.
